The Dodgers prevailed over the Giants in a very close match on Monday. Bauer was able to go 6 innings and got the much deserved win. Three different relievers came in and shut the door on any hopes the Giants had in coming back.
Bauer gets the narrow win for the Dodgers
Bauer wasn’t excellent but he wasn’t bad. He did go 6 innings and threw 98 pitches in the process. His 2 earned runs would definitely be welcomed by many pitchers in the league, especially against the Giants. But Bauer’s ERA actually went up in the process. His 8 strikeouts looks good on paper but shows that it could have gone worse for Bauer.
Out of the 98 pitches that Bauer threw, 67 of them were strikes. That’s a pretty high margin by anyone’s standard. The Giants were able to get 8 hits off of Bauer which is a pretty staggering number for 6 innings. What really saved Bauer yesterday was only allowing 1 walk. Of those 8 hits, 2 of them were solo home runs. If there were any runners on base, it’s a much different narrative for the Dodgers. But who cares about the what-ifs? Dodgers won, Bauer had a decent stat line. Moral of the story is that Bauer is still struggling with those long balls.
Stellar pitching matchup for game 2
Buehler takes the mound for game 2 in Los Angeles. It will be one of the best pitching matchups of the year. Giants’ ace, Kevin Gausman, is set to counter Buehler. Gausman is the owner of a ridiculous 1.49 ERA and a head-scratching 8-1 record. Needless to say, but I’ll say it anyways, he’s been very good this year.
Buehler is having a great year. His 7-1 record and 2.51 ERA is amazing, but not as captivating as Gausman’s. The Dodgers will have the chance to 1.5 games behind the Giants with a win tomorrow.
