The Dodgers are arguably the best team in baseball. Their record isn’t number one but they are a very deep roster. While there isn’t a player that has off the charts numbers, they have a group that is very efficient. The Dodgers having no starters actually speaks to how deep the roster is. But one could still argue the case that Max Muncy and Justin Turner should have been starters.
What was MLB thinking?
I understand why there are no starters for the Dodgers this year. But the selections for the reserves make no sense. Without a doubt the selections should have been Justin Turner, Walker Buehler, Kenley Jansen, Max Muncy, and Chris Taylor in that exact order.
Justin Turner didn’t get the role to start the All Star Game because the fans needed to see Nolan Arenado. If it was based on merit, Justin Turner would have been the starter, but that’s fine. That is what the popular vote is for. Voting for who the fans want to see, not who has the best numbers. Turner should have been an easy choice for the roster but was incredibly left out.
Walker Buehler is the Dodgers’ best pitcher
Walker Buehler is the Dodgers best pitcher. He is pitching with a 2.35 ERA and has a crazy 8-1 record. He is electrifying and his emotion on the mound is contagious. Buehler is truly a special talent and he deserved to be on the mound in the All Star Game.
Kenley Jansen is another name that should have been on the All Star Game roster. His 1.30 ERA should have easily been enough to earn him a selection but that somehow wasn’t the case.
Muncy and Taylor earned All Star selections
Max Muncy and Chris Taylor made the All Star Game roster which they definitely deserved. But I have no idea how Mookie Betts got a selection. Not to say he isn’t a good player, he just isn’t putting up All Star caliber numbers.
The Dodgers might be able to sneak in Buehler and Jansen to the All Star Game roster as some pitchers will be scheduled for rest days as the game gets closer. Both Buehler and Jansen deserve the spot so the Dodgers could very well end up with 5 total All Star selections.
