Max Muncy is definitely a fan favorite when it comes to the Dodger faithful. He’s always been at his best when the Dodgers have needed him most. This season has been no different of course when it comes to Muncy putting up big numbers.
Muncy’s average the only thing holding him back
Even though Chris Taylor is having a monster year, Muncy is arguably the second best position player on the Dodgers. The only thing keeping him down is his .267 AVG which is rather mediocre. But he is actually the league leader in walks and on-base percentage. His approach at the plate is stellar and he gets deep into counts.
It’s a huge surprise that his average isn’t higher. Not to mention, he also has 13 home runs to his name this year. That is good enough for the most home runs on the Dodgers’ roster. His .267 AVG is also the third best average on the Dodgers so it’s not that bad. Muncy’s SLG and OPS is also the highest on the Dodgers as well.
Muncy securing first base duties
Because of Cody Bellinger’s injury, Max Muncy has had a relatively stable job at first base. The signing of Albert Pujols also meant that he could get some rest worked in by playing his more tradition role at second base. Although he is just as much of a first baseman as he is a second baseman.
Although Muncy has put up a stellar year, Chris Taylor’s has been slightly better. Both them are neck and neck though and we can see why someone would choose Muncy over Taylor. Muncy has more home runs and has gotten on-base more than Taylor, but Taylor has been more opportunistic which has allowed him to obtain more RBIs and Runs than Muncy.
Muncy and Taylor having stellar years
Whether or not you agree that Chris Taylor is the best Dodger position player. I think everyone can agree that they are both very special players who are having great years.
