Who is the Best Dodger Player Right Now and Why is it Chris Taylor?

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Chris Taylor is arguably my favorite Dodger player alongside Walker Buehler. I like players that give it their all and those two are the epitome of leaving it all out on the field. Chris Taylor is a glorified utility player that should have a starting spot on this Dodger team. And for the most part he does, and that’s good for the Dodgers considering he’s been their best hitter.

Chris Taylor is not among the stars

Chris Taylor has somewhat quietly been putting together a stellar start to the season. Of course he is not some sort of hidden gem but his name gets lost on the powerhouse roster that the Los Angeles Dodgers are fortunate enough to have. Cody Bellinger, Mookie Betts, Justin Turner, Max Muncy, Corey Seager, Walker Buehler, Clayton Kershaw, Trevor Bauer, and quite a few other would be ahead of Chris Taylor in terms of superstar-dom.

But Chris Taylor is currently the owner of the highest batting average on the Dodgers roster with a minimum of 95 at-bats. He also has the most RBIs and has 30 walks which is good enough for second-best. As if that’s not enough already to convince you that Chris Taylor is the Dodgers’ 2021 MVP so far, he also has the most stolen bases, 6, and hasn’t even been caught once.

The perfect all around player

Chris Taylor is a truly remarkable player. He doesn’t only get things done at the plate, he knows his way around the bases as well. We already mentioned that he has the most stolen bases on the team and that he hasn’t even been caught stealing either. But he also has scored the most  runs on the Dodgers as well. That means he gets on base and his ability to distract the pitcher and force more fastballs allow for hitters to be more effective at the plate.

Of course, why stop there? He has already recorded 50 hits which puts him at second most on the Dodgers. And his 3 triples are also the most on the Dodgers roster. He also has the second best OBP, SLG, and OPS… You know what that means? He’s able to work the count and earn a walk. He currently has 30 walks which again puts him at second best on the team. And his 7 HRs puts him at 3rd best on the team…

Chris Taylor is the Dodgers 2021 MVP

What can’t Chris Taylor do? Well he can’t pitch or catch and first base isn’t his specialty either. But he’s played every other position this year with the Dodgers. His willingness to do whatever it takes to help his team win is exactly what makes Chris Taylor the Dodgers’ 2021 MVP for far.
