Well that was an eventful weekend. All NL West teams were involved in a sweep one way or another. The Dodgers swept the Giants to knock them out of first place. The Padres swept the Mariners and the Rockies swept the Diamondbacks. Needless to say there have been a lot of changes to the standing.

Only Padres Remain in Dodgers’ Way

Even after the Dodgers’ current 7 game win streak, they still cannot grab the number one spot in the NL West. They did their job in sweeping the Giants, pushing them all the way down to third place. But the Padres were able to match the Dodgers game by game. The Padres are 9-1 in their last 10 games and they are currently .5 games ahead of the Dodgers.

The Giants look rattled and this could be a defining point in their season. They will take on the last place Diamondbacks to get some sort of confidence with some easy wins but they will take on the Dodgers in Los Angeles this weekend. The Giants will not be looking forward to that.

Offense exploding, bullpen falling short

The Dodgers offense is really starting to click with the exception of Friday night’s game that they won 2-1 thanks to a 2-run home run from Chris Taylor. The Dodgers proceeded to score 6 and 11 runs in the following games. The only note of concern was the bullpen. The Dodgers always seemed to be in complete control until the bullpen get involved and shook things up.

While they didn’t allow a lot of runs, you can feel a sense of uneasy from the Dodgers and a growing confidence from the Giants and their fans. Either way a win is a win and the Dodgers got three of them over the weekend so mission completed. The job won’t get easier now as they are set to take on the Astros for a quick 2-game series before hosting the Giants for a 4-game series.

Another wild week for NL West ahead

The Padres will take on the Brewers for 3 more games after having played game 1 on Monday. Then the Padres will visit the Astros as well for a 3-game series at the weekend. So everyone catch your breath because there are going to be a lot of changes in the standings again this week.
