The Dodgers absolutely dominated the Giants a week ago in San Francisco. They pitched well and got ahead early in games. This series was hard fought but they only came out with one win to show for it. After a 4-3 win in game one of the series, the Dodgers failed to get another win.
Buehler dominant but let down by bullpen
It all seemed to start on Friday when Buehler took the mound against DeSclafani. Both pitched well but Buehler had the slight edge even though they both left the game in a 2-2 tie. The Giants were able to tag Treinen for 3 runs in the 8th inning to take a commanding 5-2 lead. But Austin Barnes hit a pinch-hit game-tying 3-run home run.
The very next batter was Albert Pujols and in a 5-5 situation in the bottom of the 9th. Pujols hit one deep to left field but was robbed of a walk-off home run by Tauchman. It’s a really odd and complex scenario to breakdown. The Giants were depleted after giving up the 3-run home run to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th. The Dodgers had the momentum.
Close game more taxing on Dodgers
But that all seemed to shift with the very next batter. When Pujols was robbed of the walk off home run, the Giants seemed to find new life even though they had just been one out away from winning the game. The Dodgers seemed to have the life taken out of them as they stood in disbelief watching Tauchman bring that ball back.
The Giants then responded with 3 runs in the 10th inning to win the game. After that, the Giants responded with a strong offensive performance on Saturday. The Giants took a commanding lead early as they tagged Urias for 7 runs in 5 innings. The game ended 11-6 and meant that the Giants had a 2-1 series edge.
Kershaw ineffective in start vs Giants
On Sunday, the Dodgers sent Kershaw to the mound but it was more of the same from the Giants. The Giants again got to an early lead and scored 5 runs against Kershaw in 6 innings. The Dodgers were able to make it interesting at the end of the game as they scored 2 runs in the 8th and 9th inning but still fell short 5-4. Muncy and Pujols both hit 2-run home runs late in the game as the bats seemed to be waking up but were ultimately too late. Worth noting that Dubon hit a 2-run home run and did the Bauer celebration as he stepped on home plate. Nice to see the rivalry still alive.
With the 3-1 series loss, the Dodgers are now in third place and they trail the Padres by 2.5 games in the NL West. The Dodgers will continue their homestead with 3 games against the Cardinals who have a 30-22 record and are first in the NL Central.
